Micro Switch Cross-Reference Guide: Omron, Honeywell, Cherry and Zippy Alternatives
18 September 2025 · NY Circuit Team
Every procurement engineer knows the problem: the design specifies an Omron SS-5GL or a Honeywell V15, and now you need a cost-effective alternative with the same footprint and rating. This guide explains how micro switch cross-referencing works and what to check before switching.
Why Cross-Reference at All
Brand micro switches are excellent products — and expensive, with lead times that hurt production planning. A well-matched alternative from a professional manufacturer offers:
- Same mounting footprint and actuator geometry
- Same or better electrical rating
- 30–60% lower cost at volume
- Shorter, more predictable lead times
The key word is well-matched. A bad cross-reference causes field failures that destroy the savings.
The 5 Parameters That Must Match
1. Mounting Dimensions
The screw-hole pattern and body outline must fit the existing fixture. Common body sizes are the standard “V3” (27.8 × 10.3 mm) and “V4/V5” formats. Always compare drawings — not just “looks similar” photos.
2. Electrical Rating
Match or exceed the original: AC rating, DC rating and inrush capability. A switch rated 10A 125VAC cannot replace one rated 16A 250VAC, even if the body fits.
3. Actuator and Operating Force
- Pin plunger, lever, roller lever or simulated roller?
- Operating force (OF) and release force (RF) in the same range?
- Movement differential (MD) similar, so trip points stay in tolerance?
4. Terminals
Solder, quick-connect 4.8/6.3 mm, PCB pin or pre-wired cable — match the harness or board.
5. Life Expectancy
Check electrical life at your actual load, not just mechanical life. Request the endurance curve.
Common Cross-References We Support
| Original | Typical Series | What to Send Us |
|---|---|---|
| Omron | SS, D2F, D2SW, D3V | Full part number, e.g. SS-5GL |
| Honeywell | V7, V15, ZM | Part number + application |
| Cherry / ZF | D4, DG, E series | Part number + load |
| Zippy | VM, VJ, KW | Model + rating |
| C&K / Marquardt | Various | Datasheet or photo |
How to Request a Cross-Reference
Send us three things and we reply within 24 hours:
- The exact part number of the original switch
- Your application and load (voltage, current, duty)
- Quantity per year — so we quote the right price tier
We match the footprint, rating and actuator, and confirm with a drawing or sample before you commit. Samples are available for standard models. Request a cross-reference →
