Middle East Compliance: SASO, SABER & ESMA Marks
17 August 2026 | NY Circuit Team
Import requirements depend on the destination, HS code, product classification and current technical regulation. This guide is a starting checklist, not a clearance decision: verify the exact product in the official system and with the local importer or customs professional before shipment.
Saudi Arabia: SASO and SABER
- SASO (Saudi Standards, Metrology and Quality Organization) publishes technical regulations and conformity services.
- SABER is the official platform used for product registration, conformity certificates and shipment certificates.
For a commercial electrical-product shipment, the practical workflow is:
- The Saudi importer checks the HS code and whether a technical regulation applies.
- The exact product and model are registered in SABER with the evidence required for that classification.
- The applicable conformity-assessment route and product document are completed through the recognized body or official process.
- The importer requests the shipment certificate using the current shipment data.
Do not assume a certificate type, validity period or evidence list from a similar product. Check the current SABER platform and SASO conformity service for the exact transaction.
UAE: ESMA / ECAS
The UAE Ministry of Industry and Advanced Technology operates ECAS for regulated products. Whether a particular switch or breaker requires ECAS, G-Mark or another route depends on its classification. Where ECAS applies, the official service lists a valid trade licence, product test report from an accredited laboratory and the required application documents among the inputs.
Use the official MoIAT ECAS service and product-conformity search to confirm the current route and certificate scope.
The Gulf G-Mark
The GCC Standardization Organization publishes a technical regulation for covered low-voltage electrical equipment and appliances. G-Mark applicability is product-specific; it should not be inferred merely because an item is electrical. Check the current GSO regulation and the destination-country process.
What This Means for Your Supplier Choice
When sourcing from any manufacturer, ask for:
- Exact model, rating, intended use, HS code and destination
- Model-matched data sheet, drawings and available test reports
- Certificate or declaration holder, model scope, issuer, dates and referenced standard
- Current labeling, importer and shipment-document requirements from the official destination system
The Labeling Trap
Labeling requirements vary by regulation and product. Confirm at least:
- Manufacturer name and country of origin
- Rated voltage, current and breaking capacity
- Required language and importer or supplier identification
- Any applicable conformity mark, registration or certificate reference
For an NY product inquiry, send the exact model, rating and destination requirement. We will check which model-specific documents and marking options are available before quoting; a catalog statement is not treated as proof for every model. Ask about your market requirements
